And he was kicked repeatedly, and that was WRONG. SO WRONG.

1. Tropic Thunder is a lot better than I was led to believe from the lukewarm reviews in the too-cool-for-school Seattle press. It works both as a Hollywood-satire comedy and a comic-action-adventure movie. Everyone in it is very funny. (Purely because I have not seen his performance mentioned among the flashier comic highlights of the movie, I shall single out Matthew McConaughey's non-schticky supporting role for praise.) Joe Bob says check it out.

After seeing the movie, I think the controversial "retard" material is firmly directed at grossly sentimental Hollywood depictions of the mentally disabled and derides those films rather than the people fictionalized in them--but I think the people who've found it objectionable also have a point. The racial craziness around RDJ's character is addressed directly and given due time for rebuttal from a more reasonable standpoint, as it were, whereas the humor about Simple Jack isn't.

2. I note from everyone's Vividcon reports that everybody and their dog is apparently doing brilliant vids to "Handlebars". I guess my idea to do a Batman vid for that song was maybe even less inventive a notion than I originally thought. (Which is okay, because I think I was half interested in exploring Batman's character with a side order of even-darker-than-Nolanverse constructed reality, and half just interested in, like, having the lyric "I see the strings that control the system" over a shot of the Joker showing off his explosives-filled coat.)

3. The song someone REALLY needs to vid is "Hold Me Bat Boy" from Bat Boy: The Musical. I imagine it as a vid that looks like it was made by the Joker? in the spirit of those vandalized trailers and hacked promotional websites from the viral ad campaign for TDK. Juxtaposing lots of BATMAN IS SRS BZNZ from the Nolan films with inappropriate lyrics, clips from Dr. Horrible, follow-the-bouncing-bat sing-along chorus, Adam West doing Bat-dances, Nicole Kidman putting the moves on batsuited Val Kilmer, Nestor Carbonell as both the Mayor of Gotham and Batmanuel...

Re: 3: You need to make that. Really. That sounds utterly amazing.
