So basically what you people are telling me

is that London is worse at dealing with snow than Portland and Seattle put together.

You learn something new every day...

Mmm, London doesn't get snow. The infrastructure isn't there.

Neither does Portland, except when it does. (Seattle has no excuse, because it seems to snow every year there and the city still has no friggin' idea how to deal with it.)

Up to an including the streets - I liked the explanation that many boroughs don't have snowploughs because there is no-where to put the snow.

Mind you, it is also the first snow of the year. Before Aftenposten.no discontinued its English pages, I greatly enjoyed the annual "Oslo in chaos in first snow of season".

And Washington, D.C., where a half-inch of snow closes down the government.

I very much enjoyed Barack Obama snickering at that.

And how!

Hahaha, yeah, I was just thinking that. London doesn't get snow so much, they have an excuse; the DC area gets a reasonable amount of snow quite regularly, and yet EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN and EVERYONE PANICS every time.

Weird, isn't it? I grew up there and we lived on a hill. Once or twice when it snowed a truck would make a half=hearted effort to sand the hill...but they never plowed it first!
