Everyone who adored DH: I am happy for you and would not want it any other way. I'm not nearly as into this fandom as I used to be, and it's nice to see that most of the people I know who still really give a damn are generally satisfied with how it all turned out.

I'm pretty sure nothing about DH made me as happy as the little kids at the pre-release party did. Not just being at a literary event that united the generations--as awesome as that is--but seeing the creativity and confidence of the wee fans, who all seemed so clever and garrulous, celebrating Halloween in July, making predictions, bopping around the bookstore for several hours in a festive yet remarkably non-chaotic mood. The trio of li'l Ginny, Hermione and Luna (complete with a mocked-up Quibbler) were charming (and gave a menacing pose for my camera that convinced me I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of their wands), the roving packs of wild Harrys and occasional Weasley twins were adorable, but probably my favorite was the six- or seven-year-old girl dressed as a house-elf with a SPEW button. If she's identifying with the struggle of oppressed classes this young, I think she'll go far. :)

Lately I'd been asking all the eight-year-olds I knew (there are two or three) whether Snape was good or bad. "He's good and bad," said my tutoring student sagely. "You're probably right," said I.
