When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.
If you insist. (HP, S&A, Hitch-Hiker's, X-Files, miscellaneous.)
S&A: the one where Anna was Darren's stage manager--and his reluctant second--at uni
"Darren, I want to say something to you." She did that sharp little inhale-exhale thing. "I'm sorry I screamed 'Fuck you' and abandoned you during your duel."
"And threw an expensive prop sword in the dirt."
She nodded. "It was not professional."
He looked out at the stage, his hands on his hips. "The flies are still going up late at the top of the show."
X-Files: the one where Jerry Kallenchuk is Alex Krycek's sister
"Christ on a crutch, Alex." It's the first time she's addressed him by name since arriving here, and he flinches visibly. "What the hell have you been doing since the last time I saw you?"
It's several seconds before he speaks, and when he does, his voice has an edge of odd humor, as if he were referencing a private joke with someone who isn't here.
"It's a long story."
Hitch-Hiker's Guide: the one set in the movieverse
"Right," Arthur said, impatiently. "Good morning, shower. May I have some water, pretty please?" He was greeted by a freezing cold jet that sent him yelping out of the shower. "Bloody hell! Isn't it your pleasure to provide me with running water or something?"
"You're thinking of the doors," the shower said haughtily, as if there were nothing more ignominious to be compared to. "Don't patronize me."
HP: the one I only started because I wanted to use the title "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time"
"What if I got stuck or something? What if I had to keep on being a dog?"
Remus put a couple boxes of Weetabix in the newly-exorcised cupboard. "I would buy you the best dog food, and I would take you for walkies in the park every day as we grew old together, and our love would be a pure and tragic one."
HP: the one that would have been all Alfonso Cuaron's fault
"Hey, Stan, go tell dose womens dis is neutral territory."
Stan rolls his eyes and tucks his newspaper in the pocket under the nearest window. "I sees 'em, keep your knickers on."
"I don't wear no knickers," the head answers as Stan climbs the stairs to the second level. "I go regimental."
the one where Peter Wimsey gets mixed up in the Wizarding World's war effort
"Oh!" Miss Clunes jumped away from the wall, watching a long tail disappear into a ragged hole in the corner. "Will no-one rid me of this blessed rat!"
"If it bothers you that much, I'll just go and catch it for lunch." Wimsey was not quite able to keep his expression neutral at this declaration, and Miss McGonagall's eyes twinkled with amusement. "I don't mean to startle you, Lord Peter, but it's only the chivalrous thing to do, since this fellow keeps on bothering her." Without any further ceremony she turned into a cat, which Wimsey supposed he really shouldn't find so surprising, all things considered.
the X-Files (Consortium-era)/Prisoner crossover where young!WMM appears in the Village
"How am I to be sure you don't work for them? An agent provocateur, flushing out all the escape plots, and providing constantly recurring proof that no one, even the inimitable whoever-you-are, can ever leave?"
"What would be in it for me?"
"That would be telling."

Date: 2007-08-05 12:00 am (UTC)(As to your footnote I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage. If it's a canonical quote less famous than "Placetne, magistra?" it's probably been replaced in my brain cells with a cartoon theme song by now.)

Date: 2007-08-09 03:45 pm (UTC)I always found the problem with cartoon theme songs was that the speed and the accent made me miss words, so that in my head they tend to go along the lines of "Ulysses, something of/through the Galaxy".

Speaking of which! I just got in from vacation tonight, and your package is here! And you're right, I haven't read the Wimsey books, though everyone is always telling me I should. Thank you so, SO much. You rock.

Date: 2007-08-15 12:14 am (UTC)Um. I have this problem right now where I have like six things I totally have to write and meanwhile have to do things like find a place to live.
But we should both write S&A fic. (In keeping with my usual fanfic attention span, S3 jossed almost every plot idea I'd had and left me wanting to let the principals fend for themselves and go write Frank/Cyril.) Also, you should be on AIM sometimes. That would be most agreeable.

Date: 2007-08-15 12:37 am (UTC)I'm signed up for the S&A ficathon--are you as well? I can't remember--so one way or another, I'm going to have to write more fic. I have no idea how, though; I'm also having a lot of trouble with the principals, I think mainly because (a) I love Geoffrey and want to write him and yet (b) everyone writes Geoffey and many have done it better than I would.
Frank/Cyril, though, I approve mightily. Do this, too! I'd really love any S&A fic from you, because of course you would nail not only the everyday details of theater life, but more importantly the significance of it all. Seriously. On my mental list of Stories I Want Certain People to Write, "
Do I have your screenname? It's actually been so long since I popped onto AIM that I'm not sure whose I have.
