Below I have some links to a story that a) includes brain-breaking CELEBRITY-RELATED WTFERY and b) truly brilliant internet fail, c) may also interest the lawyers and law students who enjoy crazy case studies and d) I've just realized could, potentially, be triggering for some readers, thus the lj-cut.

Guardian blogs: Did Rolex watches save Owen Wilson's life?

An astonishingly terrible press release from a Rolex distributor ties Rolex watches to Owen Wilson's recovery from suicidal depression. Hilarity ensues.

I find surprisingly few mentions of this around the blogonets--maybe it's actually too crazy to make a good internet phenomenon? but because the jewelers did this (OBVIOUSLY) without Rolex's permission, there is a blog post about the legal ramifications from the in-house blog of some law firm using the incident for a far more appropriate style of self-promotion.

I know owning a Rolex would improve the quality of my life. After I sold the ridiculous thing I could pay off my debts and then some.

Also, the award for "Best Comment at the Guardian" goes to this, I think:

So let me get this straight, Marina; his life was saved by having his fist inside a submariner?

Wouldn't be the first time etc etc
