I don't think I'm quite going to have a Trek renaissance as much as a lot of people on my flist are (though I will continue to enjoy watching you guys have your fandom renaissances over there), but, okay, those of you who saw the movie opening weekend and have been keeping track, tell me where to find the best Original Universe Spock Plays Yenta in Some Way Between New Spock and New Kirk stories. I'm just assuming there's TONS of this by now? Clearly?

Requirements: This should go without saying, but New Uhura cannot be rendered invisible, unsympathetic or somehow-no-longer-awesome a la Scully in a bad Mulder/Krycek story. In fact, that might be my only demand. I think I would be equally willing to read a story where Old Spock wants to smoosh them together in order to "fix" how he never told Kirk he loved him/their love was torn apart by what-have-you/et cetera as I would a story where, like, Old Spock and Old Kirk were at it quite happily for many years and Old Spock wants things to work out the same way for Baby Spock and Baby Kirk but, you know, something appears to be presenting an obstacle to their getting with the program and that makes a plot happen. Bonus points if it's funny.

(I know Leonard Nimoy is old and whatever, but if there's Spock/Kirk/Spock out there by someone I trust I could be on board with that. Because--well, you know. Because it's there.)

Mmm, Trek renaissance. I may have to make myself an icon or two...

So, I started my afternoon in RPS-ville (http://community.livejournal.com/pinto_fic/) (ignore the horrific portmanteau; I know I am.) I didn't actually read much fic there, I just watched a couple (dozen) adorable interviews that were linked there.

From there I jumped into a couple of sets of recs here (http://liviapenn.livejournal.com/553985.html) and here (http://silviakundera.livejournal.com/773817.html), and from there proceeded to some random link-clicking until I didn't know where I was and the sun had gone down.

I'd say probably the closest thing I found to your 'Spock plays yenta' scenario is To the Best of My Recollection (http://svilleficrecs.livejournal.com/900714.html). So far there seems to be a lot more fic dealing with the mind meld aftermath than anything actually featuring Spock Prime as an active character. In fact, Heat (http://keelywolfe.livejournal.com/478751.html) may be the only thing I've read (so far) with Spock Prime in it. (It is short and NSFW and fulfills two-thirds of your last request there. And it takes place in a CAVE.)

A CAVE! Well, I mean--that goes without saying in this canon.

Huh, maybe not everyone finds the Two-Spock Problem as interesting/hilarious as I do. I know the movie sort of tries to be like, "oookay, Old Spock is in this continuity now? and he'll be here for presumably the rest of his life? but he...and...himself are going to have only a nodding acquaintance. Old Spock is certainly not going to be, like, a factor in Baby Spock's character arc from now on. because...well, you know. because." But Old Spock is still there! You know?

I feel like I should write JJ a thank you note. Maybe when I'm done being bitter about other things he did last week (so, you know, in August or so.)

In all fairness, JJ is really not responsible for That Other Show anymore; he's mainly occupied with Fringe. Cruse and Lindelof have been making those calls for a while.

Hmmm, I suppose that is true. You win this time, Abrams...
