Deep thoughts on the Writing Process
Jan. 1st, 2006 04:07 amSo, I wrote How the Ghosts Stole Christmas for Yuletide. My recipient mentioned crack (a couple times) in her Yuletide suggestions post, so I took her at her word and went poking through her archives for a crossover fandom that could make Nip/Tuck a little more cracktastic. The fic crosses two fandoms that I'm pretty sure haven't met before, name-checks another in the story and takes its title from a fourth. I wish I'd had a little more time to work on it, but it seemed to go over well where it counted, so I'm happy.
The story I got (and this was a boom year for Nip/Tuck, wasn't it? I think the amount of fic in that fandom may have doubled with this year's Yuletide crop alone) turns out to have been written by
rivkat, with whom I was only tangentially familiar prior to this but who, it would seem, wrote a high-quality 64K AU fic, with in-character gay sex and a plot, for a total stranger, during the holiday season, with A VERY YOUNG BABY IN THE HOUSE. Clearly she is a powerhouse of both fandom and motherhood, and I salute her. (ETA: This fic is also an awesome stealth crossover that I completely missed when I first read it, which makes me feel pretty dim since I also picked out a fandom from my recipient's previous work and crossed it over with Nip/Tuck for my premise.)
Here's to another damn good year of Yuletide, and to SLEEP!
