So, um, I know at least one person on my flist is in what one might term Formula 1 fandom, and...I'm sorry, your fandom is, rather unexpectedly, now officially a bigger pervert than any of mine.

I love that the article has an academic commenting on the whole phenomenon of Nazi S&M roleplaying, too. I mean, of course there's an expert on that!

It is real, Mosley has admitted to having been to the sex orgy, though he also claimed it had no Nazi connotations. He sued the magazine not for slander, but for breach of privacy. At least AFAIK.

Although not for him, I guess, if somehow it is actually the case that the S&M orgy only looked like it involved Nazi fetishism, because then he's all of a sudden got Jewish anti-defamation groups after him for his sexual kinks when his worst fear about exposure had probably been, you know, being very embarrassed.

Doesn't look good for that possibility, though.

The problem is that his father was a high-profile Nazi in Britain, and he himself also had a history of involvement with them after WWII. He's been spending the past 30 years distancing himself from that... with success this far. So the problem is not necessarily the OMG BDSM thing, but that it's possible he's been a Nazi all along, he just chose not to talk about his principles.

Though I haven't had any involvement with F1 fandom in the strict sense of "fandom", that is, writing fanfic, etc. and posting it on fannish communities, BBs, etc. you get the idea. I did draw Hamilton in SD style once, because my brother asked me to, but I never posted it anywhere.

I am, however, a F1 nerd to the extent that I watch races with a laptop to have access to the live infodump... though I'm not that much of a nerd to wake myself up at 5 AM for overseas races (and then I have data cravings while watching the race and complain). And I wish there was even more data! But I kind of make a who-has-bigger-heaps-of-data contest from everything in life, I wonder if this is like those penis length contests ;p

It is. :) Although I know you don't do the fic thing, so it depends what one means by "fandom". I was more counting it as just, you know who these people are, you belong to a comm or two related to it, and the fact that I usually only hear about the world of F1 through your LJ was instrumental in my clicking on the link to that article and going WTFBBQPOLARBEAR.

Especially since I can feel a certain kinship to the F1 nerds right now, seeing as one of my principal "fandoms", American politics, has been all about the high-priced hookers, adulterous threesomes, cocaine, more hookers, and diaper fetishes lately...

Diaper fetishes?! *google* Is that Senator Vitter? I completely missed that. Is this even real? I heard of the prostitution, but not the diapers.

Hungarian politics has also hit an all-time low... apparently according to the latest scandal, now it's A-OK to be an Anti-Semite if you're right-wing. I'd link an English-language writeup, but all of those I found were pretty odd... This one (http://english.mti.hu/default.asp?menu=1&theme=2&cat=25&newsid=251030) is from the Hungarian News Agency, and does not seem to contain any factual inaccuracies, but several important details are missing. (Like Bayer claiming the existence of said Jewish journalists and writers who he claims are doing the things he claims is sufficient for anti-Semitism.) At least it does not contain dubious claims like Bayer being Jewish, which is AFAIK not true (and as far as it's possible to retrace, it originated with a neo-Nazi website), but is already making its rounds in the Anglosphere on perfectly mainstream sites. (Pretty much all anti-Semites are claimed to be Jewish by other anti-Semites who consider them rivals at some point.)

Anyway, before I went off on a tangent I just wanted to say that my entire family is very amused by the fact that something I'm interested in has a sex scandal of all things. lulz.
