1. [livejournal.com profile] doorrepairgirl, I note that this contains some Battle of the Smithsonian clips that feed your OTP.

2. I watched twenty minutes of American Idol tonight and I think that'll hold me for another couple years.

3. Oh dear, I was quite looking forward to the crazy weird uber-slashy Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes until I actually saw the trailer. Considering my recent experiences with promising-ness of trailers vs. actual interest level of the film when I actually see it (hint: it has not been a strong correlation) I think I will just ignore the trailer and continue looking forward to the movie.

OH, the BOYS ARE IN PERIL. I thought your movie-going commitments were somehow in peril. I NO LONGER HAVE READING COMPREHENSION.

Well, I mean, keep in mind I haven't seen the first movie, is Octavius supposed to in some way "be" the historical Augustus, or what? Because if so, he has a headstrong child from an earlier marriage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_the_Elder), but I think the comedic PG version of her life might just make me cry...

Okay, so, in the first movie, the Teddy Roosevelt statue in the museum (Robin Williams) tells Larry (Ben Stiller) that he has the memories and whatever of Teddy Roosevelt, but he knows he's not the real thing. So, presumably Octavius does have the memories of the historical Octavian/Augustus, but he's a) tiny, and b) been living in the museum for 50 years, so there's probably been some drift from his original personality. And he's speaking English instead of Latin and blah blah blah (you can only apply so much logic to this movie before things start to unravel.) (Having seen that interview and learned that both the movies were written in bars makes me feel better about this fact.)

So, yeah, in theory Julia could be present, but only if the display in the museum is detailed enough to include members of Octavian's actual family. And as you say, it'd be hard to fit her life into a comedy in a respectful way. Eek.
I did come up with a cracktastic premise for the Birdcage parallel: the kid's S.O. is from some new display on Hannibal and/or Carthage, so when Jed & Octavius go to meet the S.O.'s parents it is vitally important that they don't find out Octavius is a Roman! So you get wacky hijinks with Octavius in cowboy gear. And there would be some obligatory elephant content. And so forth.
